We’re calling on our University to adopt a policy allowing all students who achieve any passing grade for any course that is less than the GPA they began this Semester with to have that course noted as a “PASS” and the result exempted from their GPA calculation.

The University currently already has this policy in place for students who achieve between a C- and a C+ grade. The effect of what we are proposing is that you would not have a change to your GPA for this Semester (or, depending on the circumstances, this year) unless the overall grade for your course was higher or at least equal to your GPA when we began Semester One.

On Thursday 30th April AUSA and other Student Leaders met with the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) to advocate for this proposal. The Vice-Chancellor seemed open to discussing this further and working with AUSA on developing a policy to address student concerns.

George and Emma, AUSA’s President and Education Vice-President, have another meeting with the University to push for this next week. To get this over the line though, we need to show just how overwhelming the student support for this is from across our various faculties.
